Notifications

What Base tells you about, and where those messages land.

Notifications

What it is

The inbox of everything Base has raised for you inside the app: integration problems, automation alerts, finance and project events, CRM enquiries and messages. The bell in the nav shows the latest and the unread count; this page is the full history with filters. Email and text messages Base sends are separate rails; this page is about what appears in the app.

Before you start

  • Nothing to switch on. If the page says "Notifications are not switched on for this workspace yet", the feature has not been enabled for your organisation; ask your admin.
  • Which events raise a notification is decided by the organisation's automations. Base installs a default set for every business (budget overruns, compliance expiry, bounced email, client decisions, claim deadlines and so on); see Automations.

How to

Check what is new

Press the bell. On a desktop it sits in the nav footer, above What is this page?; on a phone it is in the top bar. A panel lists the latest notifications. Unread ones are marked; Mark all read clears them. View all notifications opens this page.

Open a notification

Press it. It is marked read and you are taken to the thing it is about: the lead, the claim, the integration settings, the conversation.

Filter the history

  • All or Unread.
  • Every type, or one of Integrations, Finance, Projects, CRM, Messages, Automations.

Thirty load at a time; press Load older for more.

Clear the backlog

Press Mark all read (N) at the top right. Everything, across every filter, is marked read.

What happens on its own

  • A notification is written when an automation you have on decides something needs you: a failed Xero sync, an enquiry from a lead-capture link, a budget overrun, a texted reply nobody has read. The default automations are installed for every business, and a paused or deleted one is never switched back on without you.
  • The bell's count updates live and falls as you open things.
  • When the assistant marks notifications read for you in chat, this page and the bell refresh.
  • Items carry a severity: information, needs attention, or broken. Broken means an integration has stopped working and the fix is usually to reconnect it under Settings → Integrations.

Things that surprise people

  • There is no per-person preference screen for which notifications you get. The switches are the automations themselves, under Automations → Library, and they apply to the whole organisation.
  • Opening a notification marks it read even if you leave the page it opened straight away.
  • This is not your email. A claim Base emailed to a client, or a text to a subbie, is in Comms, not here.
  • The bell on a collapsed nav is a dot, not a number. Expand the nav to see the count.
