MCP connections

What it is

MCP Connections lets you connect your own AI assistant, Claude or ChatGPT, to Base, so it can read and update your projects, estimates, rate book and documents with the same access you have in the app. The page gives you the server address to paste into the assistant's connector settings, step-by-step guides with screenshots for the Claude apps and for ChatGPT, and a list of the assistants already connected with a Revoke button on each.

Before you start

  • A Claude or ChatGPT account that supports custom connectors.
  • Your access in Base is what the connected assistant gets, no more. What your admin has switched off under Team modules stays off through the connector.
  • Org admins see every connection in the organisation; everyone else sees their own.

How to

Connect Claude or ChatGPT to Base

  1. Under Your MCP server URL, press Copy URL.
  2. Follow the guide for your assistant: Connect BASE to Claude or Connect BASE to ChatGPT. Step through the screenshots with the arrows; each step says what to click in the assistant's settings and where to paste the address.
  3. Sign in to Base when the assistant asks. The connection appears in the list on this page with when it was connected and last used.

Revoke a connection

  1. In the connected assistants list, press Revoke on the row.
  2. Press Revoke again on the "Revoke access?" confirm.

The assistant loses access immediately. The row stays in the list marked Revoked, with the reason (by owner, by an admin).

What happens on its own

  • Each connection records when it was last used, so an assistant that has gone quiet is easy to spot.
  • A connection is revoked for you when you are removed from the organisation or changed to a client role; the row says so.
  • The assistant inside Base can list your connections and revoke one when you ask.

Things that surprise people

  • Revoking does not sign the assistant out of Base's login; it stops the connection. Reconnecting creates a new row.
  • A connected assistant acts as you. If it changes an estimate, the change is yours.
  • Admins see everyone's connections and can revoke any of them. Members see only their own.
  • The guides are written by Base and may lag a change to Claude's or ChatGPT's own settings screens. The server address is what matters; the screenshots are the help.
  • Connected apps, for software connected through the partner API rather than an AI assistant.
