Default site induction

The induction every job inherits.

Default site induction

What it is

The default site induction is what every worker completes the first time they sign in to any of your sites: an ordered set of steps (a video, an image, a document, a block of text) followed by the conditions they must tick before they can sign in. It is set once here by an admin and every job inherits it. A job that needs something different has its own Site induction page, where the default can be overridden for that site alone.

Before you start

  • You need to be an admin. The organisation-wide default is an admin setting.
  • Have your media ready: a link to a video (YouTube, Vimeo or a direct .mp4), and any images or PDFs to upload.
  • If nothing is set here, workers get Base's built-in induction. The page offers Quick-add standard induction to load a common one for you to edit.

How to

Build the induction

  1. Give it a Title and, if you like, a short Intro shown before the steps.
  2. Under Steps, press Video, Image, Document or Text to add a step of that kind. Give each a step title.
  3. For a video, paste the link. For an image or a document, press Upload image or Upload PDF and choose the file; press Replace file to swap it later. For text, type what the step should say. Add a caption or notes to any step.
  4. Use the arrows to reorder steps and the bin to remove one.
  5. Under Conditions to agree, press Add condition and type each statement a worker must tick ("I will wear the required PPE at all times").
  6. Press Save induction.

Workers now complete this induction the first time they sign in to any of your sites, and again whenever you change it.

Start from the standard induction

  1. On an empty induction, press Quick-add standard induction. A common construction-site induction (PPE, SWMS, site rules, hazards, emergencies) is loaded for you to edit.
  2. Change what you need, then press Save induction.

What happens on its own

  • Saving a changed induction re-inducts everyone: the next time a worker signs in to a site, they complete the new version before they are through.
  • A job with no induction of its own uses this one. A job that has overridden it keeps its own until someone reverts it on the job's Site induction page.
  • The assistant can change the induction when you ask it in chat; the page reloads to show what it saved. Image and PDF steps still need a file uploaded here by a person.
  • Blank conditions are dropped on save.

Things that surprise people

  • There is no draft. Save induction puts the new version in front of workers immediately.
  • Changing the title alone is still a change, and still re-inducts everyone on their next sign-in.
  • Uploaded images and PDFs are served from a public bucket, so the link works on a worker's phone without a login. Do not put anything confidential in an induction.
  • A video step holds a link, not a file. If the video is removed from YouTube the step goes blank.
